Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

Hello from Mrs Bennett and Mrs Hughes

Welcome from the Year 5 team!  As you will already know, we are the Year 5 teachers and will be supported by Miss Parker and Miss Goddard. Mrs Hartley teaches in Mrs Bennett's class on a Wednesday and a Thursday afternoon. Mr Price teaches French and Music in both classes one afternoon a week.

Full P.E kit will now be worn to school on your new designated P.E day, which is Tuesday. We will be swimming for the whole of the Autumn term.

As we are limited with space in the lockers, we ask that you support us to utilise the space well. Therefore, we ask that you only bring with you a coat, and that anything else is brought in a drawstring bag (lunch box and reading book and reading journal).

In the Autumn term, we have lots of interesting topics to study. In History, we will become experts on the Anglo-Saxons. In Science, we will be finding out about forces and Earth and Space. In English, we will writing in a variety of ways to entertain, inform and persuade our reader. This will range from writing an email based on Robot Girl, to a description of our own 'Lost Thing', to creating drama and suspense in our own spooky narratives. In Maths, we will be focusing on place value and composition of numbers up to 1,000,000.

At Comberton, we really value the power of reading. As well as educating us more about our the world around us and other fictional worlds, reading will help you to ‘magpie’ new vocabulary, figurative language and story ideas, to become a confident and skilled writer. We would like to see you continuing to read at least three times a week and ask that an adult signs the record to confirm this has been completed. This forms the Year 5 homework alongside TT Rocks. Reading books may be swapped on a Tuesday or Thursday. Reading records will be collected in and TT Rocks monitored on a Friday.

We hope this helps to answer any questions you may have, but if you do have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at year5@comberton.worcs.sch.uk and we'll try our best to answer them.
